AARON T. BECK PSYCHOPATHOLOGY RESEARCH CENTER TO EXPAND ONLINE COGNITIVE THERAPY TRAINING, LAUNCH ELEARNING COMMUNITY USING ICOHERE

New internet-based certification program will fill gap in driver safety training.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. and WASHINGTON, D.C. – December 18, 2014 – In a field where face-to-face training is the standard, the training arm of the Beck Initiative is reshaping Cognitive Therapy (CT) training by expanding online training and launching a new eLearning Community of Practice. The Beck Initiative is a collaboration between the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center of the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbilities, and delivers evidence-based CT training to clinicians working with people in recovery. The online training expansion will not replace standard training, but instead will promote its sustainability at the community level. iCohere has been selected as the software provider and learning management system for the program.

"We had a lot of different things we were trying to accomplish - multiple online training modules, an eLearning community where trainees could talk to each other, downloadable resources, data collection, and when we looked at the available platforms, iCohere was the one that looked most able to meet our needs," said Torrey Creed, Ph.D., director of the Beck Initiative. "Although we didn't know it when we selected them, they have also been incredibly accommodating, collaborative, and supportive in helping us to develop the site into what we need, and that's been a wonderful experience too."

The online component provides an important piece of program sustainability. It will help sustain training for new therapists and link them to a community of peers where they can learn new ideas, access resources and connect with other professionals. Creed says the program will also help further increase recertification numbers because of the personalized support therapists receive.

"The expanded online training and new eLearning community is a perfect example of how technology enhances health care," said Pascal Kaplan, CEO of iCohere. "We are thrilled to be supporting the important professional development projects of the Beck Initiative."
