CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: GRANT TO PROVIDE VIRTUAL CONFERENCES

Serving Those Who Serve Others award program to provide pro-bono virtual conferences to two nonprofits


WALNUT CREEK, Calif. and WASHINGTON, D.C. – November 3, 2015 – iCohere, a global provider of cloud-based learning management and professional development solutions, today announced a call for applications for its 2016 Serving Those Who Serve Others grant program.  This year’s program will provide two nonprofit service organizations with pro-bono virtual conferences.  In a collaborative process with iCohere, the selected organizations will develop the content and handle the publicity and marketing of these multi-day events and iCohere will provide the design and technology. The submission deadline for applications is December 5, 2015 and can be submitted through https://icohere.com/servingothers.htm.

"Due to budget and staff limitations, smaller nonprofit service organizations often have not been able to provide their volunteers and public audiences with the educational, networking, and inspirational benefits of a major virtual event. The Serving Those Who Serve Others program enables two organizations to reach expanded national and global audiences."

Many Hispanics, who have relied on urgent care or emergency services, are now acquiring health care coverage for the first time in their lives through the Affordable Care Act. Project Director Adriana Perez, Ph.D., ANP-BC, FAAN, an assistant professor at Arizona State University, said the virtual conference helped build on a larger initiative developed for targeting and educating nurse educators in hard to reach communities and provide bilingual assistance to individuals and families with their enrollment process.


National AfterSchool Association (naaweb.org)

Gina Warner, president and CEO of the National AfterSchool Association, said the association already hosts the largest in-person conference for afterschool professionals but that the virtual conference helped to significantly expand its reach. She said high-quality professional development is critical for positive youth outcomes such as engagement in the community, positive social development, and closing achievement gaps. The virtual conference included workshops, keynote presentations, and the opportunity for participants to interact with each other and presenters.
